Leaving my midwestern roots with the dream of illustrating children's books, I moved to San Francisco in the 1980's to study illustration at the Academy of Art. A summer art workshop in Florence turned into three transformational years and the discovery of my passion for painting in the traditional style in the Istituto per L'Arte e Il Ristauro and Lorenzo de Medici. I returned to San Francisco continuing to study contemporary painting at San Francisco Art Institute and UC Berkeley extension and later studied with master painters, Aron Meynell, Sadie Valerie, and Felicia Forte.
My recent subjects for paintings are figures in landscapes, expressing my fascination with children and teens enjoying freedom outdoors. I have had solo and group shows in San Francisco, and my work is in private collections in the US and France.
I was a middle-school teacher in Illinois before moving to California and have taught art to children for the past 15 years. My San Francisco studio is where I teach small group and private classes. We visit the nearby museums and parks for classes when we aren't working from a figure or a still-life set up in the studio.
